Bring your bike and hiking shoes
to the scenic rural world of Parke County Indiana.
estled in the rolling hills of west central Indiana are many of the world's most famous covered bridges, one of the Midwest's premier hiking and canoeing destinations and three Indiana visionary rail-trails economically linking Parke County to Indianapolis and Terre Haute. We invite you to enjoy the diverse beauty surrounding this area and its rich historical and natural heritage. Bring your bike and hiking shoes since most scenic spots are best enjoyed at the leisurely pace that is biking, hiking, backpacking and canoeing.
Stay up to date with the planned Covered Bridge Gateway Trail linking the National Road Heritage Trail with the B&O Trail in west central Indiana. When complete, this 150 mile multi trail loop, will provide visitors access to one of the longest closed loop linear parks in the US. In addition, a three mile spur trail will take you to Turkey Run State Park. You will also want to visit the historic Wabash River and Erie Canal town of Montezuma via the B&O Trail.
This site provides links to event information throughout the area including historic roller mills and covered bridges at Bridgeton and Mansfield. While you're here, check out the deep forest canyon country at Turkey Run and Shades State Parks where you can camp, bike, backpack and canoe the gorge-ous sandstone lined Sugar Creek. Shades SP offers the only designated backcountry camping area on a backpacking trail in Indiana, complete with restrooms and potable water.
Raccoon SRA at Hollandsburg offers visitors a chance to see Parke County's scenery and wildlife by foot, bike, canoe or kayak with 30 miles of shoreline around beautiful Cecil M. Harden Lake.
Must visits are the covered bridge bicycle routes, managed by Parke County Inc., and CBGTA's own biking/hiking events throughout the area. The group will be hosting these and other events during the year so visit the site often for the latest updates. You'll come as a visitor and leave as a friend.
